The capital city of Malta is Valletta. It is situated in the country’s southeastern region, specifically in the central-eastern portion. The western coast of the city borders the Marsamxet Harbor while the eastern coast has access to the Grand Harbor. The building of the city was proposed by the Order of Saint John around 1524. By the 1570s, the city of Valletta was completed. It became a capital city on March 18, 1571, when the set of Grand Master Pierre de Monte was moved from Birgu to Grandmaster’s Palace in Valletta. Valletta, also known by several names such as the Fortress City, is a major tourist attraction in Europe. The buildings were constructed during the reign of the Order of Saint John. Although the city is busy by day, it gives a feeling that one is walking back in time. Valletta’s climate can be described as Mediterranean with a warm summer and a wet winter. Summer is characterized by little to no precipitation while winter has heavy precipitation. The proximity of the city to the sea moderates the winter temperatures. Thus, the city enjoys mild winter. The average high temperature of Valletta ranges from 160C in January to approximately 320C in August while the average low temperature ranges between 100C and 230C in January and August respectively.
