Vientiane is the capital city of Laos, as well as the largest city in the country. Vientiane is located near Laos’s major physical feature, the Mekong River, near the border of the state of Thailand.

Vientiane is estimated to have a population of 760,000 people, with an estimated growth rate of 2.79%.

Vientiane is major tourist attraction within the country of Laos. This is partly a result of the city's location, but also comes as a result of the city's favorable climate and impressive scenery. Vientiane is also home to ancient temples and Buddhist monuments that are open to visitors.

Vientiane has a tropical savannah climate as described by the Koppen climate organization. The region has alternating dry and wet seasons. The dry seasons occurs from November until March while the wet seasons occur from April to October. Generally, the weather in Vientiane is hot and wet. However, the temperatures within the city tend to be lower during the dry seasons. The highest temperatures are recorded during the month of March, at 40 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature was in January at around 0.0 degrees Celsius.
