The capital city of Egypt is Cairo which is located in the northwestern part of Egypt. This city has a vibrant history and has been occupied by human inhabitants for hundreds of years. The first known settlement of the area took place close to the start of the fourth century A.D. During 1882, the British invaded the country and changed the configuration of the city which placed more importance on the trading areas close to the Nile River.

The population of Cairo is 9.5 million in the city centre and a total of 20.4 million in the Cairo metropolitan area. This makes Cairo the second-largest city on the African continent behind Lagos, Nigeria. Cairo is home to 11% of the nation's population and creates 22% of economic activity in the country.

Attractions in a city with as much history as Cairo are plentiful. One of the most popular attractions in the world is located in Egypt and a day trip to the Pyramids of Giza is straightforward to access from Cairo city. The Egyptian Antiquities Museum and the Coptic Museum are both great places to observe ancient artefacts. This city has an abundance of excellent sites and experiences for any tourist.

The climate of Cairo is classified as a hot desert environment with high humidity and frequent wind and sandstorms. Temperatures in the winter (November-January) range from 14- 22 degrees Celsius (57 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit). In the summer months (May-July), highs can reach 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit), and lows will likely be around 20 degrees Celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit). Precipitation is rare in Cairo but sudden showers in the city during the colder months can bring flash flooding.
