Panama City is the capital city of the Republic of Panama. It is located in Panama province at the entrance of Panama Canal on the Isthmus joining South and North America. Panama City is the largest city in the Republic of Panama. On August 15, 1519, the Spanish conquistador Pedro Arias Davila founded the city of Panama, but it was later burned down by the English pirate Sir Henry Morgan in 1671.The city was then reestablished in a peninsula 5 miles from the ruins three years later. The ruins still stand in their original state where they function as a tourist site.
As of 2013, Panama City had a population of 880,691 people living in the city. The metropolitan area of Panama City had a higher population of 1,272,672. Panama City has the highest population in the country followed by San Miguelito, Tocumen, David, and Arraijan. The location of Panama City gives it deep natural harbors which has significantly influenced the economy of Panama.
Panama City ruins (Old Panama) is a great tourist attraction. Isla Taboga a 20-minute boat ride from the city offers excellent fishing charters, sandy beaches, jet ski’s ride among other things for tourist to explore. People who like hiking, jogging and love great viewpoints, Ancon Hill is the place to visit because it offers excellent views of Panama City as its steep reaches 654 feet high.
Panama City experiences mainly two climatic seasons: the dry season and rainy season. The dry season, which starts typically from late December and lasts to late April, offers an excellent time for tourists to visit. The rainy season in Panama City begins around May and goes on until the end of December. September is the warmest month in the city while November is the coolest. The city’s daytime temperature is usually around 30 degrees Celsius and the night’s temperatures drop to around 22 to 24 degrees Celsius.
