The house of parliament building in Niger is located in Niamey, which is the capital city. The building is named Assemblee Nationale which is a French word for National Assembly. The president has an official presidential palace located in Niamey. The country today operates under the 2010 constitution and is known as the seventh republic, though the government model was adopted from the constitution of July 18, 1999.

Presidential elections in Niger are carried out in two rounds with the top two candidates from the first round going against each other in the second round. The national assembly has 113 members, of whom 105 are elected from the multi-seat voting districts, and 8 of the members are elected from single-seat minorities. The members of the National Assembly usually meet at the Assemblee Nationale which is located in Niamey. The president lives in the presidential palace which is also located in Niamey.

Niger's government can be described as a semi-presidential republic. The president heads the state, and the prime minister heads the government. National elections are held after every five years, and eligible voters vote for the president and the members of the national assembly. The president then appoints the prime minister.

Niger is a multiparty state with several political parties. The dominant parties are the Democratic and Social Convention, the National Movement for the Development of Society, and the Nigerian Party for Democracy and Socialism.
