Montenegro Capital

The capital of Montenegro is Podgorica. Podgorica is centrally located in the country. It is located at the confluence of Rivers Ribnica and Moraca. It is also at the meeting point of Zeta Plain and the Bjelopavlići Valley. Podgorica became the capital city of Montenegro after World War II. The city was heavily affected during World War II. In fact, it was bombed over 60 times. The city was liberated on December 19, 1944. On July 14, 1946, Podgorica, which was then referred to as Totograd, was declared the Social Republic of Montenegro, which was part of the Social Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

The city is the largest and the most populated region in the country. The Podgorica municipality covers approximately 10.4% of the total area of the country. In the 2011 population census in the country, Podgorica had a population of 185,937 people. The people living in the Podgorica Municipality add up to approximately 29.9% of the total of the country’s population.

Podgorica hosts several Montenegrin cultural institutions and tourist attraction sites. It is a top cultural and tourist center in Montenegro. The tourist sites include a number of renowned art galleries and museums. The notable museums in the city include the Podgorica City Museum, The Archaeological Research Centre, The Marko Miljanov Museum, and the Natural History Museum. The ancient artworks of Montenegrin and Podgorica have been preserved in galleries in the city. Budo Tomović Cultural-Informational Centre has been a significant cultural center in the city for over 50 years. The cultural center organizes occasional cultural and artistic events that attract numerous people.

Podgorica experiences a blend of the Mediterranean climate and the humid sub-tropical climate. Podgorica experiences only one summer month with less than 40 mm of precipitation. The summer temperatures are usually slightly below 30 degrees Celsius. The winter temperatures are between 0 to 100 degrees Celsius. An occasional strong northerly wind influences the climate of the winter, lowering the winter temperature by a few degrees. The maximum snowfall that has ever been recorded in Podgorica is 58 cm, on 11 February 2012. The average annual precipitation is 1600 mm. The number of rainy days in a year is around 120. The days that the rains are accompanied by strong wind are approximately 60 days.
