Kyrgyzstan is a democratic state with three functional arms of government. The people are represented by their elected leaders, called the legislators. The president is the head of the independent state of Kyrgyzstan while the prime minister is the head of government
Kyrgyzstan is headed by the president as the head of state while the prime minister heads the government. The president is elected through citizen vote. The prime minister acquires leadership by being chosen by members of parliament. The president is constitutionally entitled to one term that lasts for six years.
The unicameral parliament is a supreme body in the Kyrgyz Republic. The house of parliament is made of a total of 120 seats whose occupants are members of different political parties. The members of parliament are voted in through party list proportional representation for a five year term. The parliament is located in the capital city of Bishkek.The supreme council, otherwise known as “Jogorku Kengesh” was constructed in the 1970s.
Ever since the time of the Tulip Revolution, Kyrgyzstan has been home to a number of political parties. Today, these parties include names such as the Ak Zhol, the Alga Kyrgyzstan Party, the Ar-Namys Party, the Ata-Jurt and the Ata-Meken.
