Reykjavík is the capital city of Iceland, and the country's largest city. Reykjavík is located in Southwestern Iceland exactly on the southern coastline of Faxa Bay. Reykjavík boasts of the title "world’s northernmost capital of an independent state." In 1786, the city officially became a trading city. Reykjavík can also be described as the cleanest, safest and greenest cities in the world. The town is the center of cultural, government and economic activities in Iceland.

Apart from being the largest city in Iceland, Reykjavík is the largest and most populated settlement area in Iceland. Reykjavík itself has a population of 123,300 people. The capital region, which consists of Reykjavík and municipalities surrounding the city, is made up of a total of 216,940 people. As we speak, Reykjavík is home to people from at least 100 nations. Apart from Icelanders, the other languages in the city include Danish, Lithuanian, and Polish.

The climate of Iceland is described as subpolar oceanic according to the Köppen climate classification. This climate is very close to the tundra climate. Despite being in the north, its climate hardly goes below −15 degrees Celsius in winter. This is brought about by the North Atlantic Current which regulates the weather on the coast of Iceland. The summers are pretty cool with temperatures variations of 10 and 15 degrees Celsius.
