Roseau is located in the west coast of Dominica in Saint George parish, surrounded by the Caribbean Sea. It is built on the site of the ancient village of Sairi. Roseau is a small urban settlement in Dominica. It became a city in the 1890s.

Roseau is home to a very popular botanical garden. The idea of making it a botanical garden was conceived in 1889 and adopted in the year 1891 by the British Crown Government. It boasts a great variety of plant species. Another tourist attraction in Roseau is the Parrot Research Centre. It was established to preserve the island’s national birds such as the Sisserou and Jacquot Parrots, who are both endemic to the island. Other tourist destinations in Roseau include a historic site called Morne Bruce and the impressive Lady of Fair Haven Cathedral.

Roseau is associated with a tropical rainforest climate. Subsequently, the city experiences relatively constant temperatures throughout the year with average high temperatures of between 28 and 31 degrees Celsius. Its average low temperatures are between 19 and 23 degrees Celsius. Rainfall is common throughout the year. The annual average rainfall in the city is nearly 2,000 mm. However, there is a dry stretch from February through April.
