The capital of Antigua and Barbuda is St. John’s. It is located in the Saint John Parish on the island of Antigua. The capital lies on the northwest coast of the Island. It has been the administrative center of the nation since 1632 when the islands were first colonized by the British. It is also the main port of the island.

According to a survey of 2011, the city of St. John’s had a population of 22,193 inhabitants. It had the population density of 7,652.8 persons per square mile when compared to Antigua and Barbuda’s population density of 776.5 persons per square mile. The survey also noted that there was a 5.1% reduction in the capital’s population. This drop served as evidence of the de-urbanization of the population that had been happening over the previous 20 years. The majority of the inhabitants were found to be of both African and mixed African-European ancestry with a European minority also present.

St. John’s has a lot to offer in the way of tourist attractions. The most obvious would be its beautiful beaches. Another would be Fort Jame, which is located at the entrance of the harbor. It was built by the British in the 18th century. Only the foundation of the wall and several cannons remain. The Museum of Antigua is the oldest building in the city. It displays both Indigenous and colonial artifacts. St. John’s attracts many tourists from cruise ships sailing in the Caribbean, which dock in its harbors several times a week.

The city of St. John’s experiences a tropical climate which means that it is hot and humid all year round. It has a relatively cool and dry period from January to April thanks to the northeast trade winds. However, from June to November, the winds are less regular which leads to an increase in temperature. It is usually dry from January to June and rainy for the rest of the year with the heaviest rainfall being experienced in August to November. The worst weather is experienced during the hurricane season when tropical storms and cyclones may hit the island.
