The capital city of Saint Martin is Marigot. It started out as a village in 1689 as a site for merchant ships carrying agricultural produce. Today, the city is home to around 5,700 inhabitants, making it the largest city in the French Overseas Collectivity of Saint Martin. It experiences a tropical savanna climate.
